He is living in No 2 ward of Ishpeming, Marquette County of Michigan, with his parents and family. (Enumeration District 23, Supervisor's District 1, Page 68). Census Place: 2nd Ward, Ishpeming, Marquette, Michigan. Source: FHL Film 1254594 National Archives Film T9-0594 Page 303D. In the 1900 US Census, he is recorded twice: (1) On 15 June 1900, he is recorded as Joseph Argall, a Copper Miner aged 23 and born in Michigan in September 1876. He is living with his wife in the Calumnet Township, Houghton County, Michigan. [Supervisors District #12, Enumeration District 174, Sheet 29B]. (2). He is recorded on 5 June 1900, as Joseph Argil, a Miner of Iron Ore aged 22 and born in Michigan in September 1877. He is listed as single and living in Ishpeming, Marquette Co., Michigan, with his parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters, and a Lodger. (Supervisor's District 12, Enumeration District 114, Sheet 5B). [It is clear from this second entry that he and his wife were not actually present but John or Elizabeth were reciting names of their family whether they were living there or not].
