Biography

Agnes Argile was born in Ilkeston in 1884.[1] She is the daughter of William Argile and Agnes Witham.[2]

At the time of the 1891 census, Agnes was eight years old, a scholar living in Station Road, Ilkeston with her parents William and Agnes, six older siblings and two younger sisters.[2] Agnes'sfather died in about 1897,[3] and at the time of the 1901 census her mother and three sisters were running a boarding house in Ilkeston[4] and Agnes, age 17, was working as a domestic servant living with the family of Samuel Arum, a refreshment house keeper, in Bath Street, Ilkeston.[5]
