Research Notes
The closest source given for this person is Batavia Illustrata, which was written in 1685, which is more than 700 years after these facts. This writing claims that Heijman van Arkel was the first lord of Arkel according to genealogist Pontus Heuterus.
Batavia Illustra also writes about A.Kemp's writing in "Beschryvinge van Gorinchem en den lande Arkel" claiming earlier van-Arkels and ancestors of Heijman van Arkel. This writing from A.Kemp states things like "The name Arkel was derived from a roman Hercules temple in Utrecht, of which the H was dropped and the name morphed into Erkel into Arkel." It describes ancestors like Jan van Arkel 641 and others. As these are not from original sources, but from A.Kemp's writing, they need to be classified as legendary until verified with better sources.
