He immigrated to North America around 1887 first to Minnesota and then to British Columbia, where he spent his working life as a poultry farmer.
John died at home in 1956 of a coronary thrombosis. Several members of his family are buried at Hazelmere cemetery in Surrey, B.C. but he is not.
