Biography

OBITUARY: Funeral services for Charles Arldt, 85, of Serbin, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020 from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm and on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 7:00 am until 8:00 am at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Monday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Charles Edward Arldt was born on December 8, 1934 in Lincoln, Texas, the oldest son of Edward Carl Arldt and Laura Dorothea (Fritsche) Arldt. He was baptized at his home on December 9, 1934 by Rev. G.W. Fischer and confirmed on April 10, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Max Studtmann. His confirmation verse was 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17, “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.” Charles was united in marriage to Gladys Mae Mutschink on January 1, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Max Studtmann officiating. They were blessed with five children, Mary Ann, Raymond, Eunice, Janice and Mark. He owned and operated Arldt Construction for nearly 50 years. Charles was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin where he had served in many compacities including as an elder, trustee, and chairman of the congregation. He was a supporter of the Texas Wendish Heritage Society and had also served for many years as a board member and president of the Lee County Farm Bureau and received the State Pioneer Award. He enjoyed going fishing, driving his tractor, and listening to Country, Gospel, and Polka music on the radio.

Charles passed away, surrounded by his family, the afternoon of Thursday, October 22, 2020 at his home in Serbin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Laura Arldt; his daughter, Eunice Arldt; his parents-in-law, Richard & Minnie (Witte) Mutschink, and his brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Alvin & Emily Mutschink, Margrete & Leon Ahlhorn and Leroy Mutschink.

Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gladys Arldt of Serbin; four children, Mary Ann & Delbert Prellop of Giddings, Raymond Arldt of Serbin, Janice & Randy Becker of Giddings, and Mark & Nicole Arldt of Giddings ; five grandchildren, Bruce & Sara Prellop of Giddings, Ashley Becker & special friend Rudy Solis of La Grange, Megan Becker of Giddings, Wyatt Arldt of Giddings, and Dylan Arldt of Giddings; two brothers, Walter & Patsy Arldt of Giddings and William & Linda Arldt of Austin, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bruce Prellop, Steven Arldt, David Arldt, Bradley Arldt, Wilbert Noack, and Robert Hinze. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Sara Prellop, Ashley Becker, Megan Becker, Wyatt Arldt and Dylan Arldt.

Memorials may be made to The Lutheran Hour, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Faith Lutheran High School in Warda, or the Texas Wendish Heritage Society.

The Arldt family would like to thank Virginia, Hillary and all of the special nurses with Encompass Healthcare for the care that they provided to Charles that allowed him to remain in his home during his illness.
