John, born February 11, 1856, died December 25, 1937, buried in Love County, Oklahoma (Ruebottom Cemetery), married Katie Bishop first, no marriage date known at this time. Joy Moore says that recently she found that according toEvelyn Hooks, John's first wife, Katie Bishop from Newton is buried in the Doc Kelly Cemetery, in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, where he married the second time to Emma Elizabeth Fox of Healdton, Oklahoma. The children of John and Katie are:
The 1920 census for Pittsburg co, Ok lists John age 60 as head of house with daughter Danie age 14, born in Ok, Bernard age 12, born in Ok, Lilly M age 9 born in Ok, Lucy age 6 born in Ok and Alte E
age 3 4/12 born in Ok No wife is listed.
The 1920 census for Pittsburg co Ok also lists Arthur Arledge as head of house at age 28, wife Georgia 26, Edwin age 9, Hattie B, age 6, Lovida age 4 1/12, Evelyn age 6/12
Living next to Arthur is James Edward Arledge as head of house age 30, wife Dovie, age 26 and daughter Jesse M age 6
After the death of Katy Bishop, John married Emma Elizabeth Fox in Healdton, Ok He made a journey to Newton co, Tx and then to Calcasieu Parish to visit Harmon Arledge, He rode horse back from Oklahoma to the Nibletts Bluff. There is a picture of him taken with John Thomas Arledge, the son of Harmon D. Arledge (this was about 1900) Evidently they were close as children. When John returned to Ok, he moved to Fannin co TX and raised his second family there.
They seem to have stayed in that area as we find the descendants. When they were all grown, he went to live with his son in Love co, He died there and is buried at Ruebottom Cem, Love co, OK
As a child, my grandfather, John Thomas Arledge, son of Harmon D. told me about making some trips to Oklahoma. His father, Harmon, made Sugar Cane Syrup and sold it all over the area. Now I suspect that some of his trips was to visit his cousin John.
From Joy Moore:

This had to be Mary Brinkley who was living with her son. He must have married again as that Bernard that Bob listed in Bonham is another son according to Melvin Keith Aredge so I tried to find them in 1910 since I know they stilllive on the same land but did not find them which bring me to what I did find in 1910
This was in a list of info that was later added to the census .

I just finished talking to Evelyn Hooks who grew up in Bonham Tx and she told me that the Arledges there were somehow cousins to our line, Bob that is your line She said her grandfather told her when she was young that they were all cousins but she does not know how but here is what she did tell me
Johnaton Arledge b 1833 Bienville Parish + Mary C Brinkley
John b 1856 + Katie Bishop
children were
James b 1891
Arthur Bennett b 1895
Then John's wife died and when his mother died he took his sons and moved to Bonham Tx where he remarried and had several more children:
Bernard Arledge Arledge Cem
Lucetta +  ? Winkler
Dana +  ? Fairchild
Allie Evelyn +  ?
Lillie +  ? Vanzandt
They lived all their lives in Bonham TX and their children still live there. She has more info and is going to make copies of her notes and send to me. She also has a photo taken at the grave of her ggrandfather
Johnathon 1833 who died on Oct 17, 1889. She says the marker cannot be read now due to corrosion. Mary C Brinkley is buried there too in an unmarked grave.

Joy also wrote in Jan 1999:
I am so excited  ! ! ! I just got the mail and had a letter from Evelyn Hooks and she sent me a photo of a cousin on back of a postcard dated 1910, It is of a lovely young girl of Gibson girl time and would you believe it the second name of Mary Brinkley who married Johnathon and her two brothers names as well as names dates, and marriages of the whole family and about John 1856
This says "Our Father John Arledge born on Feb 11, 1856 departed this life Dec 25, 1937 being 81 years, 11 mo, and14 days old. He married Miss Kate Bishop to this union four children were born in which two survive, James Edward and Arthur. Later he married Miss E E Fax of Healdston to this union were born five children: one son Bernard, four daughters (Mrs J R Fairchild, Mrs Steve Vandzandt, Mrs H C Winkler, and Mrs H A Hughes of Sulphur OK). At the time of his death he was with his son Arthur of Courtney OK, where he had made his home for several years. He joined the Methodist Church some 40 years ago and was a member until death called him. Funeral services were conducted at theRubottom Cemetery where his remains were laid to await the Resurrection Day. All is dark in our dwelling, lonely are our hearts today, for the one we loved so dearly has forever passed away.
The names of children are here until 1982
There is also a photo of Evelyn, her husband and father Arthur at the grave of Johnathon 1833

Pam, I just received a 1920 census from Oklahoma and it shows John Arledge age 60 no wife, and children Danie N, Bernard, Lilly M, Lucy E, Allie E, but what is interesting is that it states than John was born in Louisiana while BOTH his mother and father were born in Mississippi.
1920 U.S. Census • Oklahoma • Pittsburg • Ti • ED# 221
Arledge, John Head m.w. 60 rents widowed LA - MS - MS Farmer Home farm
Dana N. dau f.w. 14 OK - LA - TX
Bernie son m.w. 12 OK - LA - TX
Lillie N. dau f.w. 9 OK - LA - TX
Lucy E. dau f.w. 6 OK - LA - TX
Allie E. dau f.w. 3 4/12 OK - LA - TX
> 1930 U.S. Federal Census > Texas > Fannin > Precinct 1 > District 6
Arledge, John Head m.w. 76 Widowed LA First married at
17
Bernard m.w. son 21 Single OK LA TN no job
Lilly f.w. dau 20 Single OK LA TN farm
helper
Allie f.w. dau 14 Single OK LA TN in school
Irene f.w. dau 9 Single OK LA TN in school
Nora f.w. dau 8 Single OK LA TN in school
The two listed in this census are daughters of James Edward Arledge and are really the grand daughters of John. They evidently came to live with him after their father remarried in 1929.
By 1937, John has come back to Love Co to live with son Arthur and is there at his death.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
