Brita Elisabet Arling, “Brita Lisa,” was born 8 March and baptized 11 March 1764 in Kyrkbacken, Odensvi, Västmanland, Sweden. She died 3 February 1828.
Brita lived in Kyrkbacken until 1767 when her parents moved to Klackaregard, Odensvi. Her father was a tailor. Her mother died in 1771, when Brita was seventeen, and her younger sister died in 1773. In 1776, her father remarried, and in 1777, Brita’s older sister moved to Köping. Through her marriage, Brita lived in her father’s household in Kyrkbacken. She was 44 years old and her children all under age ten when Anders died, but she did not marry again. She remained in Kyrkbacken until her death, twenty years after her husband died.
It is Anders and Brita Lisa who gave their son Per the name that would become Jennie’s and her siblings’ surname in America. Per may have been named for Anders’s farfar, Per Nilsson Redebogen, a soldier who likely served in the Great Northern War (1700-1721.)
