Jonas was born in April 1860 in Virginia, United States. He was the son of Johnathan Franklin Armentrout and Susan Esther (Rayhill) Armentrout.^[1]

In 1880 Jonas (age about 19) was living in Holly, Braxton, West Virginia.^[2]

In the 1880 census Jonas (age 20) was living in Holly, Braxton, West Virginia.^[1]

In the 1900 census Jonas (age 40) was living in Fork Lick, Webster, West Virginia.^[3]

Jonas died at the age of about 70 in 1931.^[2]
