Biography

Martin was born 19 Aug 1866 in Duncan, Stark, Illinois. He was the son of Joseph Benton Armentrout Jr and Mary Polly Angeline Fantz.

In 1870 he was living in Stark, Stark, Illinois.[1] The household included Joseph Armentrout age 30 born in Ohio, Polly Armentrout age 28 born in Ohio, Martin A Armentrout age 4 born in Illinois and Emma Armentrout age 2 born in Illinois. Joseph was a farmer.

In 1880 he was living in Essex, Stark, Illinois.[2] The household included Joseph Armentrout age 40, wife Polly Armentrout age 40, son Andrew Armentrout age 14, daughter Emma Armentrout age 12, daughter Ella Armentrout age 10, daughter Hatie Armentrout age 2 and daughter Letta Armentrout age 2. Joseph and Polly were born in Ohio; the children were born in Illinois. Joseph was a blacksmith.

Martin A Armentrout and Isabelle J Harris were married 23 Sep 1885 in Pawnee, Nebraska.[3] She was the daughter of J A Harris and Mary Harten.

Martin Armentrout and Ellen Dee were married 25 Jul 1889 in Indianola, Red Willow, Nebraska.[4] She was the daughter of John Dee and Mary Griffen.[5]

Ellen died 2 Apr 1898.[6]

Esther May Reed and Martin Armentrout were married 20 Dec 1898.[7]

In 1900 he was living in Essex Township Wyoming city Ward 3, Stark, Illinois.[8] The household included Martin Armtrout (sic) age 34, wife Esther Armtrout age 35, son Evrett E Armtrout age 14, son Clide R Armtrout age 10, daughter Olive M Armtrout age 8 and daughter Mable L Armtrout age 6. All were born in Illinois except Everett born in Nebraska. Martin was a mine operator. Esther was the mother of 4 children, all living. The record indicates that Esther and Martin had been married 15 years, but he had been married twice previously.

In 1910 he was living in Springfield Ward 3, Sangamon, Illinois.[9] The household included Martin A Armantrout age 43, wife Esther Armantrout age 44, daughter Ollie Armantrout age 17, daughter Mable Armantrout age 15, daughter Amie Armantrout age 6, son Joseph Armantrout age 4 and son Ralph Armantrout age 1, all born in Illinois. Martin was a carpenter for the railroad. Esther was the mother of 4 children, 3 living. Martin and Esther had been married 11 years. It was Martin's third marriage and Esther's first marriage. Ollie was a servant in a hotel. Mable was a servant in a private house.

In 1920 he was living in Toulon, Stark, Illinois.[10] The household included Martin Armentrout age 53, wife Esther Armentrout age 54, daughter Amy Armentrout age 16, son Joe Armentrout age 13 and son Ralph Armentrout age 10, all born in Illinois. Martin was a mechanic in a garage.

In 1930 he was living in Peoria, Peoria, Illinois.[11] The household included Martin Armentrout age 63, wife Berther Armentrout age 40, son Joseph Armentrout age 24 and son Ralph Armentrout age 21. All were born in Illinois except Bertha born in Georgia. Martin was a machinist at an implement factory. Joseph was a clerk at a leather goods store. Ralph was a trucker for a paint store.

In 1940 he was living in Ward 4, Peoria, Peoria City Township, Peoria, Illinois.[12] The household included Martin A Armentrout age 72 born in Illinois and wife Bertha age 52 born in Florida.

He died 12 Dec 1947 in Peoria, Peoria, Illinois.[13]

He is buried in Stringtown Cemetery, Stark County, Illinois.[14]

Research Notes

Per his grave memorial he was married first to Ellen D and second to Esther M Reed. He was survived by wife Bertha.
