Obituary, Montfort Monitor, July 22, 1886
His obituary read that he lived eighteen years in North Carolina. It also said he resided in Wisconsin over 30 years. His obit read, "On Sunday afternoon, July 18, Mr. Isaac Armfield, one of our most respected citizens, peacefully passed away. Mr. Armfield was born in Guilford County, North Carolina, in 1814, where he passed his first eighteen years of life. In company with his parents, he then immigrated to Indiana and subsequently to the State of Wisconsin, where he had resided for over thirty years.
He was twice married and leaves a widow and eight children to mourn his loss. When but nineteen years of age, he united himself with the M. E. Church and has ever since been a faithful and conscientious member of the same. The funeral took place on Tuesday morning where a large concourse of people gathered at the M. E. Church, where Rev. J. Steele preached a very able sermon for the occasion.

Second, I give, divise and bequeath to my daughters Ella M. and Florence, one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) each and after the said amount ($300.00) has been duly paid to my two daughters, as herein provided, the balance of my personal and real estate shall be equally divided among my legal heirs, including my two daughters herein named. Provided however, that in case any one, or more, of my children shall die without issue, then and in that event the survivors shall, in equal portions, take the legacy of the deceased."
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of March 1886.

History of Grant County, Wisconsin, Page 665: "Clifton was considered the Goshen of the surrounding country. Ministers and others found a warm welcome at such homes as ... The old rock churck -- one of the first erected in Grant Co. -- was a fine structure for the times. Mineral was found in considerable abundance near the church, but the most extensive mining was done in and near Wingville, which consisted of a dilapidated church on the hill, a small parsonage, stores kept by ... The Stephens House and Ledbetter Hotel were the only places of entertainment. East of Winville for ten miles, there were no farms directly on the main road ... Comfort, Armfield, Lincoln and others had settled on their prairie farms and were just beginning a new life in the beautiful country. To these and others of that ilk was the early itinerant idebeted for that bounteous entertainment, which was ever ready whenever he might appear.
Note: Grant County was formed from Iowa County in 1837
