Mary Hannah was born in 1869 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. Her parents were George Armitage and Ann Furness.

Mary lived with her parents and siblings at 11 Star Street in Horton, Bradford, Yorkshire until her marriage to Albert Edward Stowell on February 25, 1888. Mary Hannah and Albert were married in Bowling, Yorkshire, at Saint Stephan Church. Mary Hannah's children would later be Baptized at this same church.

Mary Hannah and Albert lived at 11 Star Street in Little Horton, Civil Parish of Bradford from 1888 until 1910. In 1910, the family left England for America. They sailed from Liverpool and arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania aboard the ship Merion on March 15, 1910. The family settled on Orchard Street in North Philadelphia. They remained there until Albert's death in 1938, when Mary moved in with her son Frank.

Mary passed away on June 29, 1950 in Philadelphia. She was buried on July 3,1950 at East Cedar Hill Cemetery. She was placed to rest with her husband Albert.
