John was an early settler of Saint Marys Township. He married either a Rebecca or Hannah and they first moved to Athens, Ohio then to Darke County for a short time. In 1818 they removed to Saint Marys, Auglaize County and were present at the time of the treaty of General Cass with the Indians that year. During that summer and fall they lived and kept boarding house in a rall pen, until the pioneer cabin was ready for them.
