I found him on the 1870 census twice - once in his brother, Melvin's, home. The second time in his parent's home. Either that OR Melvin also had a son born the exact same year as his brother and also named William, who disappears from all census records the same year as this William. William's headstone specifies that he is the son of James Armstrong. [1]
In 1870, he appears on the census with his brother, Melvin who worked as a wheelwright building wooden wagon wheels. Mother,Margaret kept. Five children, William, Mary,Susan, Sarah, and John lived in the home. However, the census doesn't specify the relationship, so I believe William was Melvin's brother and not his son. [3]
He died at the age of 20 in March 1876 and is buried in the Jackson-Hart Family Cemetery in Crenshaw County, Alabama. [1]
