John Armstrong was born about 1853. He was the son of Adam Armstrong 1812-1878 and Helen Tait 1833-1908 [1]
19 September 1853 - John Armstrong arrived in Australia with his parents Adam and Helen aka Ellen in 1853 to Melbourne. They were passengers aboard the vessel "Star of the East". John was the only child travelling with his parents and his age is listed as 3 on the passenger manifest. [2]
John Armstrong married Eliza Jane Disher in Victoria in 1880. [3]
John Armstrong died at Dimboola in Victoria in 1909 aged 53. Parents listed on the death index as Helen Tait and Adam Armstrong. [4]
Birth information has correct parents but the birth date and death age don't match. This might be that he had a brother that has predeceased him by the same name? Or there was an error in the death record keeping. Further explorations show that there is an error in the record keeping. Parents are confirmed through the death index. Travel is confirmed through the Immigration and passage (and his age of 3). His birth year therefore at least 1853 (he might have been 3 months?). Most likely he was born in 1853 in March, his parents boarded in June (when he was 3 months) and he arrived in Australia aged six months with his parents.
