Biography

Betty was born in Illinois in 1924 to Neal Linder and Verda (Goddard) Linder.^[1] By 1940, Arthur and Betty were the only ones still at home. They had a hired hand to help with the outside chores. ^[2] She married Leroy Armstrong in 1941. They had five sons and three daughters.^[3] In 1944, their baby Elnora Mary died.^[4] She died in 2012.^[3]

Betty J. Armstrong, Galesburg Chapel 88, of 533 Rio St., Galesburg, died at 7:03 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in Knox County Nursing Home.

She was born July 16, 1924 in Galesburg, the daughter of Neal and Verda May Goddard Linder. She married Leroy E. Armstrong on August 10, 1941 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2002.

She is survived by three sons, Gerald Lee (and Cheryl) Armstrong and Larry Edward (and Kathy) Armstrong, both of Monmouth, Ill. and James Neal Armstrong of Galesburg; a daughter, Ann Marie (and Roger H.) Benson of Wataga, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur "Bud" (and Phyllis) Linder of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Roger Eugene and Chris B. Armstrong; a daughter, Mary Elnora Armstrong; and two sisters, Dorothy Greene and Frances Watts.

Betty worked in the warehouse as an associate for Farm King in Galesburg from 1974 until retiring in 1992. She was a member of Cameron Christian Church.

Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 in Silent Home Cemetery, Cameron. Rev. Paul Lydic will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Prairieland Animal Welfare Center, American Cancer Society, or National Kidney Foundation.
