"Harriot" Armstrong was baptized at St. John, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England, on December 4, 1824. Her father was Robert Armstrong and her mother was Harriet.^[1]

Marriage

The marriage of John Peter Hornung and Harriett Armstrong was recorded in the 1st quarter of 1848 in the Stockton District, Vol. 20, Page 205. {The Stockton District spans the boundaries of the counties of Co. Durham and North Riding of Yorkshire.)^[2]

In 1851, J P Hornung, a 29 year old coal merchant from Transylvania, "Germany," and a British subject, lived at Elserton? Street with his wife H., 27 b. Newcastle, Northham; and a servant Jane Pattinson, 13.^[3]

1871 England Census Marton, Yorkshire, England

In 1871, John R. Horning, a 49 merchant b. Transylvania, "Germany", lived in Erdely Villa with his wife Harriett, 47 b. Newcastle on Tyne, and seven children b. Middlebrough, Yorkshire: Theodore, 18; Bertha, 15; Harriett S., 13; Ida, 12; John P., 9; Charles Horning, 7; and Ernest W., 4. Wife's mother, Harriet Armstrong, a 72 year old widow b. North Shields, was living with the family, as were four servants: Jana Dybwarel, 17; Elizabeth Walton, 20; Jan Iwyleson, 18; Ann Haw, 13. ^[4]

In 1881, John Hornung, a 59 iron merchant b. Hungary, lived at Erdely Villa, Marton Road with 10 others: wife Harriet Hornung, 57 b. Newcastle, Northumberland; daughter Bertha Holden, a 25 year old solicitor's widow b. Middlesbro; Ida Hornung, daughter 22 b. Middlesbro; mother-in-law Harriet Armstrong, an 82 year old widow b. Tynemouth, Northumberland; and six servants: Elizabeth Binks, 24; Mary J. Dawson, 26; Jane Powell, 21; Catherine Fitzpatrick, 31; Ellen Clark, 24; and Amy Hill, 32.^[5]

Death

Harriet Hornung's death was recorded in Middlesbro' in the county of North Riding of Yorkshire during the 2nd Quarter of 1896.^[6]
