Tahpenes Armstrong was a daughter of John Armstrong and his wife Tahpenes. She was born 3 September 1815.
The 1850 United States Census recorded Thaphenus Armstrong, 30 years old, living in the Town of Wright, Schoharie County, New York, in the household of farmer John Armstrong, age 67, and Thaphenus Armstrong, age 60, who are assumed to be her parents. Others in the household were two younger siblings, Charles Armstrong, 23, and Elisa Armstrong, 21; Henry Schemerhoon, age 21, listed as a laborer, and John Duel, age 14.[1]
Tahpenes married Alanson Van Auken in 1853 as his second wife. Two daughters were born to their marriage:
The 1855 New York State Census recorded 49-year-old Alanson Van Aukin in New Scotland, with 39-year-old Trophenia Van Aukin, 21-year-old David Van Aukin, and 21-year-old John W. Carhart, a clergyman. [2]
Tahpenes Van Auken died 15 November 1889 and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, New Salem, Albany County, New York. [3]
