Biography

Sidney James Arnall was born on 8 May 1887 in Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales to William Arnall and Sarah (Norman) Arnall. His birth was registered in Swansea in the second quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Norman.^[1]

In 1891 Sydney J Arnall (age 3) lived in Swansea with his father William (56, Horse Keeper), mother Sarah (42), and seven siblings: William (17, Butcher), Mary A (15), Selina (14, Scholar), Ernest J (11, Scholar), Albert A (9, Scholar), George H (5, Scholar), and Walter R (2), as well as boarder Henry Incledon (26).^[2]

In 1901 Sydney Arnall (age 14, Colliery Door Boy Below Ground) and two of his brothers - Ernest (21, Coal Hewer Below Ground) and George (16, Coal Hewer Below Ground) - were boarders in the household of William Hellings in Ystrad-dyfodwg, Glamorganshire.^[3]

In 1911 Sidney James Arnall (age 22, Carman) and his brother Ernest John (30, Railway Goods Foreman) were boarders in the household of Obed Gilbert Owen in Swansea.^[4]

Sydney J Arnall married Barbara Applen in 1948. The marriage was registered in Swansea in the last quarter of the year.^[5]
