Biography

Jacques Francois Arnaud was born on 11 November 1811 in Opelousas, St Landry, Louisiana, Orleans Territory, USA, a son of Jacques Arnaud (1781 - 1845) and Marie A. Lalonde (1782 - 1868).[1]

His known siblings were:

  1. Guillaume Belisaire Arnaud (1812 - 1897)
  2. Marguerite Emelie Arnaud (1819 - 1851)

Jacques Francois (22) married Virginia Brown (~21) on 9 August 1834 in the St. Landry Parish courthouse, and the following June the marriage was blessed at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, St. Landry, Louisiana.[1]

He was counted on the Slave Schedule of the 1850 US Census in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana as the owner of one enslaved, unnamed, forty-year-old Black female. No further information is given.[10] Listed next to him on the document is his widowed mother, who owned several more.
