Probate
James died intestate and on 6 October 1755, his widow Joanna was granted the administration of his estate.[3]
His inventory was taken on 1 November 1755 in Duxbury.[4]
In 1759, his widow Joanna presented an account of his estate to the probate court which included funeral costs and gravestones, debts paid, support for the family, and administration fees.[5]
In 1759, his real estate could not be divided without prejudice, so according to law, the eldest son Bildad Arnold accepted the real estate and agree to pay the other children their share, viz., Luther, James, and Benjamin.[6]
