Josiah Arnold was born about 1690 in Rhode Island, son of Israel Arnold (1649 - 1716) and Mary (Barker) Arnold (1649 - 1723). ^{[1] [2]}

Josiah married his first cousin Elizabeth Arnold on December 27, 1716 in Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island. ^[3] Elizabeth was born on July 23, 1699, daughter of Elisha Arnold and Susannah Carpenter. ^{[1] [4]}
