Walter Daniel Hopkins April 4, 1917 Emporium, PA – September 4, 1997 Ridgway, PA (During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in Georgia as a guard at a prison for Germans. Married Mary Sherman in 1945 and then divorced. He married Gertrude, born June 28, 1917. Schmiedel on June 25, 1955, and divorced again in the early 1990's.) Walter Hopkins had no children.

Gertrude kept the house in Wilcox and died a year or two later at the house. It was about a week before anyone found her and the rats had eaten part of her.

Services for Gertrude Hopkins Held on Tuesday. Wilcox-Funeral services for Gertrude S. Hopkins, 81, of Box 81, Wilcox, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home, Ridgway, with the Rev. Donald D. Hake, pastor of the First Evangelical Luthern Church, officiating. Interment followed in Thayer Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs Hopkins died Friday, June 4,1999, at her residence in Wilcox.

Born June 28 1917, in Ridgeway she was the daughter of the late Walter and Myrtle Staub Schniedel.

A resident of Wilcox for over 40 years, she worked at the Elliot Company in Ridgeway and was a member of the Lutheran Church.

The last surviving member of her immediate family, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Schmiedel and Ida Rakieski and one brother Arthur Schmiedel.

Services for Walter Hopkins Held on Saturday

Funeral services with military rites accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Honorguard for Walter D. Hopkins, 80 of 314 Vernon Avenue, Ridgeway, were held at 1 p.m Saturday in the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home with the Rev Richard D. Markle, pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in Oakmont Cemetery, Ridgway.

Mr. Hopkins died Thursday, September 4 1997, at Elk Haven Nursing Home.

Born April 4 1917 in Emporium he was the son of the late Arthur B. and Olive Arnold Hopkins.

Formerly of Johnsonburg and Wilcox, he was a 1936 graduate of Johnsonburg High School.

In 1979, he retired from Penntech Paper Company following 42 years of service. He served in the U.S Army and was a veteran of World war II.

Surviving are one sister, Jessie Coppella of Ridgway, and two nephews, John Coppella of Ridgway and Thomas Coppella of Bradford.

Jessie May Hopkins Coppella November 18, 1918 Emporium, PA – December 8, 2004 St. Mary's, PA (Married Sylvester L. Coppella, born April 25, 1896, died April 1970 in Ridgway, PA. They had two sos, John and Thomas Coppella.

Mrs Arthur Hopkins Died Last Evening

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs Arthur Hopkins, 60 of Johnsonburg-Ridgeway road, at the Lehman-Hammond Funeral Home, Ridgeway, with Elder Walter Kloss, paster of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Emporium officiating. Burial will be in Oakmont Cemetery, Ridgway.

Friends will be recieved at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 and from 10 to 12 Saturday morning.

Mrs Hopkins had been ill a long time with a heart ailment, but was stricken suddenly Tuesday and was taken to Ridgway Hospital, where she died Wednesday evening at 8:40.

The former Olive Mae Arnold, she was the daughter of the late Thomas H and Clara Curtis Arnold, She was born in Emporium, Sept 16 1899 and has lived here the past 35 years.

She was a member of Brockway Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Ridgway American Legion Auxilliary.

Survivors are her husband Arthur B Hopkins, a son Walter D Hopkins, Wilcox; a daughter Jessie Mrs Sylvester Coppella, Ridgeway; Two brothers Joseph M. Arnold Emporium; and Ralph H. Arnold Oil City; and two grandchildren, John Coppella, Ridgway, and Thomas Coppella with the U.S. Navy.
