Sergeant John Arnold Sr. served with Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

John Arnold was born about 1730-9 in Prince Edward, Virginia.

John Arnold married Sarah. Their children were William, Moses, James, Champion, Terry Arnold (1765-1809), John Arnold Jr (1761-1809), Stephen Chesley Arnold (1767-1833), David Arnold (abt.1769-abt.1815), Rhoda (Arnold) Harris (abt.1771-1881), Thomas, Elizabeth, Nancy and Sallie.

Military Service Name: John Arnold Military Date: 29 Jan 1780 Military Place: Virginia, USA Rank: Sergeant Military Unit: Second Brigade Captain Joseph Smith's detachment. Served 4 months at $10 / month with General Scott Dec-March 1780[1]

He passed away about 1815 in Prince Edward County, Virginia.

Cumberland County created from Goochland County about 1748. John first appears in Prince Edward County in a 1763 deed.

Listed as a son in William Arnold, Sr.'s will.

Will

John left a will in 1809: "Will Book 5, page 39. Will of John Arnold. I John Arnold of the County of Prince Edward and State of Virginia . . . I lend to my wife, Sarah Arnold, the tract of land whereon I live, together with all and every other part of my estate, except the tract of land hereafter mentioned, after her decease, the whole to be sold at publick auction in a reasonable credit and the proceeds of the said sale to be divided amongst my children and grandchildren as hereinafter will be directed. Grandson Hobson Arnold, son of my son William Arnold . . . son and daughters of my son Moses Arnold . . . my son James Arnold . . . my son Champion Arnold one hundred and sixty six acres of land it being all now remaining mine of my old tract adjoining John Cheadle and others. The children of my deceased son, Terry Arnold . . . the children of my deceased son John Arnold . . . my son Stephen Arnold . . . my son David Arnold . . . my daughter Rhoda Harris . . . my son Thomas Arnold . . . my daughters Elizabeth Hill, Nancy Hill and Sally Arnold . . . my wife Sarah Arnold Executrix and my son David Arnold and Davis Hill executors. . . fifth day of February 1809.
