In 1743, after his father's death, David was sent to live with his uncle, Deacon Copeland, in Norton, Mass., to learn the manufacture of leather. He learned the trade well and was engaged in this occupation until his death in 1810. David was a lieutenant in the Norton Militia during the Lexington Alarm April 10, 1775. He Marched with his regiment to South Boston under the command of Col. John Daggett, and served under General George Washington in the Colonial Army. At one time David owned about eleven hundred acres of land. Until his death, he was one of the trustees of the First Congregational Unitarian Church fund in Norton Massachusetts.
