Washington Arnold was born in 1816 to Stephen Arnold and Susannah Andrews. He married three times. He married Angelina Lee in 1843 but she died within a year. He then married Hannah Johnson in 1845 and they had five children. In 1865 he married a third time to Caroline Bowles. They had four children. He died in 1898 in Jackson, Georgia and was buried in the Arnold Family Cemetery.

The 1860 census for Jackson Georgia enumerated the Arnold family with Washington and Martha and 5 children. Next door Lavinia Bowles and two of her daughters were living. 25 year old Caroline, who married Washington five years later.
