In 1840 Henry was recorded as an 80 year old pensioner for revolutionary or military services in the County of Monroe in the Western district of Virginia in the home of his son Henry Arnott Junior,[1]

He served in the 26th battalion of Virginia Infantry between 1776 and 1782, of which he fought in no battles, yet he was on marches through New Jersey and New York under Captain Gorden, Col. Wisenfelt, and Major Logan. HENRY ARNOT Henry (1761-1847) when 18 years old ran away from his home in New Jersey to join the army of the Revolution. With his wife, Elizabeth Truesdale, he came here in 1793 and settled on Swope's Knobs, about 3 miles West of Union. C: Elizabeth (b. 1781) (Matthew Wood, 1799)-Martha (b. 1786) (Charles Neal, 1802)-Deborah (b. 1787) (Walter Neal, 1804) "The couple were devout Methodists and as long as they were able would walk long distances to attend religious meetings."
