Biography

James Arnott was born on 4 Jul 1862 in Monzievaird and Strowan, Perthshire, Scotland. His parents were James Arnott and Isabella McEwen.^[1]

In the 1871 census he was 8 years old and lived at Delirie in Monzievaird and Strowan with his siblings and his widowed mother Isabella.^[2]

In the 1881 census he was 18 years old and worked as a farm servant in the household of John Miller at West Lochlane in Monzievaird and Strowan.^[3]

James married Margaret Philp, daughter of John Philp and Margaret McOwan, on 21 Jun 1895 in Crieff, Perthshire.^[4]

In the 1911 census, he was a general labourer and lived at 105 King Street in Crieff. He lived with his wife Margaret, who had been married for 15 years and had 7 children born and living. They also had 4 children with them: Robert (16), James (10), John (7), and Malcolm (9 months).^[6] Their four daughters, Margaret (14), Isabella (12), Elisabeth (5), and Christina (2), lived two houses down at 103 King Street with their grandmother Margaret Philp.^[7]

James died on 25 Dec 1941 in Crieff, aged 79. The informant on his death record was his daughter Isabella.^[8]
