Biography

John, child of James Hanold & Mary Hanold, was baptised on 14 February 1781 in Thame, Oxfordshire, England.[1]

John married Hannah Hawes on 4 July 1796 in Thame, Oxfordshire, England.[2]

John (age 77) was buried on 26 January 1839 in Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire, England.[3]

Research Notes

The 1781 baptism in Thame, for John Arnott, only puts his age at marriage as fifteen. There is a possibility that John was not batpised as an infant, but was in fact already a couple of years old. It should be noted Hannah was only eighteen at the time of the marriage, which suggests John could potentially be a young groom. There is no other baptism for a John Arnott in the area that fits. Adding to the identification, is the presence of David as a family name, especially as it comes from the Moore side of the family, strengthening the suggestion that John is the son of James Arnott and Mary Moore.

The 1839 burial gives John's age as 77, giving a birth date of 1762. This is quite far removed from the suggested age, but wide descrepancies in ages given at burial are not unheard of. There is no corresponding baptism of another John Arnott c. 1762.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
