Biography

Marguerite Arpin dit Potvin was born June 8, 1821, in Sorel, Bas-Canada and baptized there the next day. Her parents were Joseph Arpin and Marie Amable Laprade, however her mother was recorded as Catherine Duval.

NOTE: There is a curious anomaly with the baptism record for this child. Her mother is listed as Catherine Duval, but there is no marriage for any Arpin or Potvin to a Catherine Duval. However, Marie Amable Laprade's mother IS Catherine Duval, so it appears that for some unknown reason the priest recorded the grandmother's surname for the mother. Note, there were also similar errors for two older children, Angelique Marie and Étienne. PRDH family group no. 114624 has incorrectly included Marguerite in that family. This is clearly an error as her birth is only a few months after another child. They have been advised of the error and have acknowledged that these are the correct parents and they will make the correction.
