George Phillip Arras, the son of John Arras (1836–1922) and Augusta Justina Koch (1846–1912), was born 9 Feb 1875 in or near Millstadt, St. Clair County, Illinois.

George's older brother, John Arras, had been born on 7 February 1873 in Darmstadt, St. Clair County, Illinois. (Married Christina Schroeder, had children; died 14 March 1960 in St. Clair County, Illinois, age 87.)

George was baptized on 16 May 1875 at Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt, St. Clair County, Illinois.
