TOM F. ARRINGTON DIED IN MEMPHIS AFTER OPERATION
T. F. Arrington, one of the best known citizens and for many years a resident and respected citizen, died at St. Joseph's hospital in Memphis this morning as a result of a continued illness and after undergoing a second operation for prostrated glands. The last operation was performed at 10 o'clock last night by Dr. Smythe and his assistants with Dr. C. M. Lutterloh of this city present. Mrs. Arrington and D. C. Joslin, brother of Mrs. Arrington, were present at the time of the operation. Tom Arrington was sixty years of age, and has been for many years a leading citizen of this city and county. For four years he was chief of police under Charles B. Gregg, and was considered one of the best criminal officers the city ever had, and while deputy sheriff he was known to be an efficient and brave official, always discharging his duty. For a number of years he has been justice of the peace and has had much business before him. He was for many years previous to his death, a member of the Christian church. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Joe Robertson of Texas and his two grand children, Tom and Mabel Acree, his other children having passed to their reward, Mrs. Jessie T. Acree, one of his daughters, having died only a few weeks ago. For some time, his health has been bad, and after exhausting all the medical skill he could secure here he was taken to Memphis and on arriving he had one operation, and last night the second in hopes of being cured, but his condition was so bad he was not able to withstand the shock. The remains arrived here today over the Frisco.
The funeral will be conducted tomorrow morning at ten o'clock from the residence on Union street, Elder Murray Taylor and Rev. S. F. Porter officiating. The I. O. O. F. lodge of which the deceased was a member will attend the funeral in a body and have charge of the services at the grave. The pall bearers will be G. W. Culberhouse, Scott Dacus, R. E. Montgomery, J. W. Johnson, L. O. Hughes and C. A. Craig.[3]
