When Henry C. Arrington was born on 29 Sep 1776 in Bute County (which was split into Franklin and Warren Counties in 1778), North Carolina,[1] his father, James Thomas Arrington, was 21, and his mother, Ann (Willis) Arrington, was 26. He had three wives:

Elizabeth Gardner was his first wife. They married on Sep 29, 1799, in Franklin County, North Carolina. She died in 1808. She and Henry had 4 children:

Sarah "Sally" Arrington - 1801
James Arrington - b. 1804
Peter Arrington - b. 1805
Noel Arrington - b. 1808

Nancy Boone was his second wife. They married on Nov 15, 1808, in Franklin County, North Carolina.[2] They had one child, and Nancy died in 1810.

Emma Arrington, b. 1809

Nancy Elizabeth Stokes was his third wife. They married on Dec 7, 1812, in Franklin County, North Carolina.[3] Henry and Nancy moved to Smith County, Tennessee, ca 1823, and on to Wilson County, Tennessee after 1850. They had seven known children:

Mary Mahenry Arrington - b. 1814
Joel Arrington - b. 1817
Albert Alonzo Arrington - b. 1819
Priscilla Arrington - b. 1820
Thomas J. Arrington - b. 1825
Calvin Arrington - b. 1828
William Arrington - b. 1830
Elender Arrington - b. 1832

There were two additional Arringtons living with Henry and Nancy on the 1850 census: Jane Arrington, b. abt 1842, and Henry Arrington, b. abt 1848. These two Arringtons were probably grandchildren as Nancy would have been 51 and 57 when they were born.

Nancy died some time after the 1850 census[4] which was taken in Nov 1850. Henry died in 1857.[5][6] Location of their graves is unknown.

Henry and his family are on the 1840 Census[7] and 1850 Census[8] census of Smith County, Tennessee.

  • Nothing has been found to confirm a birth location of "North, Carolina, Puerto Rico, USA." As a result, the reference to Puerto Rico has been removed. Also, Warren County did not exist when Henry Carrington Arrington was born; it was formed when Bute County was divided in 1778.
  • Jane Arrington removed as a child of Henry Carrington Arrington and Nancy Elizabeth Stokes; see note in Biography section, above.
