Biography

Lewis Arscott, Sr. was born in 1846 in Okehampton, Devon, England, United Kingdom, the son of William Waye Arscott (1809–1871) and Bridget Lewis (1811–1874).

Lewis married Ellen Woodborough (1848–1902) on 27 Apr 1867 at St. Paul, Bermondsey, Southwark, England. Their children were:

1. Lewis Arscott, Jr. (1867–1943)
2. William Woodborough Arscott (1870–1959)
3. Ellen Maria Arscott (1872–1890)
4. Mary Emily Arscott (1874–1875)
5. Robert Henry Arscott (1877–1878)

In the 1871 England and Wales Census the Arscotts have moved from Okehampton, County Devon, to St. George the Martyr in London, Surrey, England and Lewis is a carpenter. In the 1881 England and Wales Census he is a licensed victualer in St .Clement Danes, London, County Middlesex, England . In the 1891 England Wales Census he is a "joiner, etc." in Newington, Southwark, London, England, United Kingdom. In the 1901 England and Wales Census Lewis is a wood joiner.

In the 1910 US Census, Lewis Sr. is 63 and living with his 40 year old son Lewis Jr. in Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio.

Lewis, widowed and apparently still working as a shipping clerk, passed away at age 76 in 1923 in Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio.^[1] He was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.^[2]
