Sophie Arsenault was born Aug. 3, 1828 at Sorel and was baptized there the next day. She was the daughter of Jean Arsenault and Marie Leroux.
Sophie Arsenault married Alexis Labossiere on Jan. 18, 1847 at St-Ours. He was a son of Jean Baptiste Labossiere and Marguerite Normand and had a twin brother, Antoine. Alexis and Sophie lived all of their lives at St-Ours and they had 15 children there.
Alexis and Sophie are found at St-Ours in the 1861Canada census [1] The family consists of: parents, Alexis Labossiere, 35 and his wife Sophie Arceneauld, 34 and six children: Jean Baptiste,14; Alexis, 12; Julienne, 10; Marie, 7; Sophie, 6 and Celina, 3. Celina is actually only 2 years old from her baptism record and two other children have died between her and Sophie.
Jean Baptiste is found at St-Ours in the 1871 Canada Census [2] with his parents Alexis and Sophie and 9 other siblings. The family consists of 12 people: Alexis and Sophie and 10 of their children. The 10 children in this census are: Jean Baptiste, 23; Alexis, 21; Julienne, 19; Marie, 17; Celina, 12, [who was the 2nd. child given this name. Three children have died between Marie and this younger Celina:] Edouard, 10; Abraham, 8; Victor, 7; Rosanna, 5; Exilda, 3.
The family is again found at St-Ours in the 1881 Canada census [3] By this time, the two oldest sons, Jean Baptiste and Alexis have both married and Alexis has also moved to Massachusetts. He will later be one of the four Labossiere pioneers to homestead in Manitoba. The family now consist of the parents, Alexis and Sophie and six children: Marie, 27; Edouard, 20; Abraham, 18; Victor, 16; Rose Anna, 15 and Exilda, 13. All six of these children will later marry, but there is no record of the two younger children; Pierre who would be 14 and Ulric, who would be 10.
Alexis [ the father] passed away April 02, 1890 at St-Ours and was buried there five days later. The burial record does not give any reason why the funeral was so delayed after the death.
Sophie Arsenault is next found as a widow in the 1891 Canada census. [4] She is listed by her married name of Labossiere and she has only two children with her: Marie, 37, who will marry in 1894 and Victor, 27, who married in 1926.
Sophie LaBossiere, nee Arsenault is found in one last census of 1901, [5] still at St-Ours, where she lived her whole life. She is now 72 years old and has only her older son, Victor, aged 36 with her.
Sophie passed away at St-Ours on December 10, 1906 and she was buried there four days later. She was 78 years old.
