Mary Jane Arthur was born in Enstone, Oxfordshire in 1847.[1] She was the daughter of John Arthur and his wife Susan (nee Blackwell) who had married at Enstone on 5th November 1839.
Charles Huckin and Mary Jane Arthur were married after banns at St Kenelm's, Church Enstone on 4th September 1875.[2] Charles was 25, a bachelor working as a stonemason and living in Enstone, the son of Thomas Huckin who was also a stonemason. Mary Jane was a 26 year old spinster, working as a domestic servant, living in Banbury and the daughter of John Arthur who was a labourer. Charles signed his own name on the register whilst Mary Jane could only make her mark with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were Frederick Jones and Elizabeth Woods and Thomas Hawten.[3]
