Sarah Arthur was born about 1770-1790 based on the available census records. According to freepages.rootsweb.com, based on researcher input, she was born about 1778. She was born in 1778 in Lunenburg Co., VA according to MyHeritage. She was born in Virginia according to the 1880 census of daughter Elizabeth Toppin. Her father, John Arthur was in Beford Co., VA (now Franklin County) buying land in 1779. It is more likely Sarah was born in Bedford Co (now Franklin Co) not Lunenburg Co.
Sarah Arthur married James Poteet on the 14th February 1796 in Franklin, Virginia.[1]
The exact date of Sarah's death is not known. She was listed in a court document in Franklin Co., VA on 5 May 1835 for the settlement of her father's estate. She was not found in the 1840 census records of Cabell Co., (W) VA where she was living. She did sell land to her son Shelton in 1845 in Cabell County, WV.
