Biography

James was born in 1844, the son of Andrew Arthurs and Mary McLaughlin.

From Reflections of the Past: The Story of Rama Township, (page 20)

The Arthurs family came from King Twp., York County and in 1871 they were living at Cooper's Fall. They took up free grant land in Muskoka (then Simcoe) at Port Sandfield but returned to Rama Township in 1882, buying land in the Sebright area.

In the 1884-85 Directory, the Arthurs family was on Lot 18, Con. E, Rama Twp., Ontario County. In the 1911 Directory, James was at the same location, his son Joseph farmed on lot 17, Con. E, Rama.

Death

James died on May 1, 1919, in Rama Township, Ontario County, Ontario. His parents names and his place of birth were not known by the informant on the record. James died of natural causes.

Burial

James and Agnes were buried at Sebright United Cemetery, Sebright, Ontario. The headstone is inscribed:
