Generation No. 2
WmA2 Jane Asbell
Born abt. 1846, she was 4 years old in the 1850 US Census.[1]

Sarah Jane was born on 22 July 1846 in Fairfield county, Ohio. She was the daughter of William and Almeda Emmons Asbell and had eleven siblings. In 1850, the US census places her in Hocking Township with her older brother Harrison and next younger brother, Levi, and her parents.[2] Ten years later, the family has grown by five children and has also moved to Goodhope Township, Hocking County, Ohio.[3] In these two early records, she goes by the name of Jane and from her marriage on she goes by Sarah or Sarah Jane.
On 17 July 1870, in Pickaway county, Ohio, Sarah was married to Jesse Brown[4] son of William H. & Maggie Asbell Brown. In the 1870 US census Jesse and Sarah are making their home in Walnut Township in Pickaway county with four children, ages 5 to 11. Jesse had a previous marriage to Mary Ann Arndt and they had; William 1859, Sarah Jane 1861, Amanda 1863 and Clara 1865.[5] In 1872 Jesse and Sarah had the first of their two children, Cynthia Almeda. In 1880 Jesse's two older children have left home, Amanda and Clara remain, along with Cynthia, and they are still in Walnut.[6] Their son, and second child, Emanual arrived in 1883.[7] The family is comprised of only Jesse, Sarah and Emanuel, age 17, in 1900 and they still reside in Walnut.[8] Sarah Jane reached the end of her life on 28 September 1900 in Walnut Township, Pickaway county, Ohio.[9] Her body was buried in the Dutch Hollow Cemetery, Amanda Township, Fairfield County, Ohio.[10]
