A previous version of this profile listed Joseph Asbell as this man's father. There is no record to support that claim. Court records regarding the estate of Emanuel state that his father was Christopher Asbell, also of Randolph County, N.C. [1]
Emanuel first appears in a tax record in Randolph County, N.C., in 1779 so he must have been born before 1763. [2] The 1790 census shows a family of six, still in Randolph County [3]
There are North Carolina land grants in 1801 and 1802. [4]
He is probably the "Manuel Asbell," male over 45, who appears on the 1810 census, also in Randolph County. [5]
An inventory of his estate was filed in Randolph County in 1831 and a claim was made against his heirs, wife Mary and father Christopher in 1842. [6]
