Reese Asbury was born on April 12, 1838 in Tazewell, Virginia, United States to the parents of John Asbury and Mary "Polly" (Ratliff) Asbury. Reese was one (1) of fourteen (14) children.^[1]

In 1850, Reese was fifteen (15) living in his parent's home in Jeffersonville, Tazewell, Virginia, United States.^[2]

On April 11, 1852, Reese married Margaret E. Hoops in Johnson, Tennessee, United States.^[3]

In 1860, Reese's rapidly growing family lived in Western District, Tazewell, Virginia, United States.^[4]

Reese fought in the Civil War from 1861-1865 for the Confederacy, in Company C, 16th Regiment, Virginia Cavalry as a Private through-out the war.^[5]

In 1870 & 1880, Reese's household had doubled living in Jeffersonville, Tazewell, Virginia, United States.^[6][7]

His son, David married Margaret M. Whitt on April 8, 1886 in Tazewell, Virginia, United States^[8]

On September 10, 1888, Reese's wife, Ellen, died at the age of fifty-three (53) in Tazewell, Virginia, United States.^[9]

The next month on October 18, 1888, his son, David died from consumption in Tazewell, Virginia, United States.^[10]

The next year in July 3, 1889, Reese died from consumption in Tazewell, Virginia, United States.^[11]
