Biography

Irma was born in 1901 in Spring Garden, AL, the daughter of Riley Fletcher Ash and Daisy Lou (Wiggins) Ash.[1]

She grew up in rural Polk County, Georgia and attended Martha Berry College in Rome, Georgia. She married Arthur Bryan Pratchard in 1922.[2] She and Arthur had three children: Aileen Helen Pratchard, Elizabeth Ann Pratchard, & Robert Bryan Pratchard.[3] During their marriage they had 2 businesses: Pratchard's Grocery Store on East Ave. and Pratchard's Photography Studio, both in Cedartown, Georgia. They owned a 2nd studio in Anniston, Alabama. They lived their entire lives in Cedartown, Georgia.[4]

Irma was a very religious woman, a Methodist, and she was long-lived and healthy. She passed away in 1998 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedartown, Polk County, Georgia.[5]

Obituary Notice:

Irma L. Pratchard, age 96, of Rome, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 1998. Mrs. Pratchard was born April 25, 1901 in Spring Garden, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Bryan Pratchard; parents, Riley Fletcher Ash and Daisy Wiggins Ash; a son Bobby Pratchard; and a daughter Ailene Helen Harper. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Betty Aitken of Rome; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Graveside service for Mrs. Pratchard was held Saturday, February 21, 1998 at 3 p.m. from Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Clifford Chandler officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Andy Harper, Bryan Harper, Riley Harper, Michael Harper, Gresham Harper, and Eli Gingras. Gammage Funeral Home of Cedartown was in charge of arrangements.[6]
