Biography

Gretchen A. Curtis, 90, of Columbus and Lakeside, died Sunday, December 29, 2013 in Columbus.

She was born February 25, 1923 in Kenton to the late Annabell and Marvin Ashba. She was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and Toledo Hospital School of Nursing of 1943. She married Jesse C. Curtis, Jr. on 23 Jan 1944. They moved to Kenton in 1950 to establish the Dr. J. C. Curtis Veterinary practice.

Mrs. Curtis was active in the Kenton First Methodist Church and other community activities. She was employed as an R. N. in several positions including over 15 years as head nurse at Hardin Memorial Hospital. After moving to Lakeside in 1991, she served on the boards of the Lakeside Heritage Society, Lakeside Women's Club and Lakeside Chautauqua.

She is survived by daughters Gretchen Sue Curtis (Ben Blee) of Columbus and Lisa Curtis (David Little) of Denver; sons Craig (Renate) Curtis of Sylvania and Kent (Karen) of San Diego; grandchildren Eric, Betsy, Alison and Laura; two sisters and three sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jesse C. Curtis, Jr., in 1998.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11th at 11 a.m. at Price Funeral Home, Kenton. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the start of the service. Private burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Kenton.

A second service will be held in Lakeside at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Curtis memorials at the Hardin County Community Foundation (P. O. Box 343, Kenton 43326), the Lakeside Heritage Society (324 West Third St., Lakeside 43440), or the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation (236 Walnut Ave., Lakeside 43440).
