Vernon Ashbolt is an Anzac who served in World War One.

Biography

Vernon was born in 1894.[1] He was the son of George Ashbolt and Minnie Jane (Hinde) Ashbolt.

He married Ella May Santy in 1915.[2] They had one daughter: Ella May (1916)

Vernon served in WWI with the NZEF, Canterbury Regiment, 2nd Battalion. He had twice enlisted before being sent overseas with the 7th Reinforcements. The first time he was discharged as being underage; the second as the result of a hand injury.

He was killed in action on the Somme in September 1916, aged 21 years.[3][4] He is remembered on the Caterpillar Valley New Zealand Memorial.[5]
