Biography

Davis Collins Bell Ashburn was born in 1836, the son of Thomas Ashburn and Ann D. Bell. When Davis was 11, his father passed away. During the Civil War, he served as a Private, Company D, 4th Regiment, Alabama Cavalry (Russell's), Confederate and also as First Sergeant, Company E, 37th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry (7th Infantry) (1st East Tennessee Rifles), Confederate. Soon after the end of the war, he married Leona Gertrude Thomas. The couple had at least eight children.

Between 1876 and 1877, the family moved from Alabama to Texas. Davis passed away in 1897 in Groesbeck, Limestone County, Texas.
