He was born to Frank and Angela (Derby) Ashcraft on June 10, 1932 in Gillett, Arkansas. As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea and Vietnam before his retirement as a Gunnery Sergeant. He married the former Rose Ann Traywick on February 22, 1958 in Charleston, South Carolina, and they remained together 48 years. They moved to Mountain Home in 1981 from Louisville, Kentucky; he was a member of the VFW and the American Legion; and he loved to fish the rivers.
