Biography
Sydney was the son of Edwin Ashdown & Elizabeth Sarah Arnsby. His father was a music publisher and in 1884, Sydney moved to Toronto to work on a branch of his father's music publishing company.
He later returned to London from 1896 to 1906, before returning to Canada, this time to Vancouver, BC where he worked with Montelius Piano House.
He was the inventor of " Ashdown Self-releasing choker hooks".
