Richard Ashe was a South Carolina colonist.

Richard Cochran Ashe was born in 1723 to Richard Ashe and Mary Cochran Ashe.

Richard Cochran Ash was recorded on the 1756-1757 Muster Rolls of the 5th Company, Will Town District in St. Paul's Parish along with James Ash, John Ash, and Cato Ash.[1]

On the 12th of December 1757 Richard Cockran Ash married Ann Daniel Widow by Rev'd. Mr. Charles Martin of St. Andrews Parish.[2] Ann Daniel was the widow of John Daniel whose estate Richard Cochran Ash and Joseph Ash were appointed as two of the several Executors.[3]

Joseph Ash was born the 14th of November 1758 to Richard Cochran Ash and Ann, and was Christened on the 22nd day of November 1758 at Saint Philip, Charleston, South Carolina, United States.[4]

His brother, Joseph Ash of Charles Town in the Province of South Carolina, Planter, set his hand and seal to his Last Will and Testament on the 24th day of September, 1765 bequeathing certain legacies unto his three nephews, Joseph, Richard, and John the sons of his brother Richard Cochran Ash.[5]

Richard Cochran Ash of Tooboo-doo otherwise called Togoodoo, in Saint Paul's Parish Colleton County in the Province of South Carolina Gentleman set his hand and seal to his Last Will and Testament on the 19th day of March 1767 leaving legacies to:

his wife Ann Ash
son Joseph Ash
sons Richard Cochran Ash (when he attains the age of 21)
son John Ash (when he attains the age of 21)
son Algernoon Sidney Ash
daughter Mary Cochran Ash (when she attains the age of 21 or marries)
daughter Hannah Ash (when she attains the age of 21 or marries)[6]

He nominated and appointed (during her widowhood) my loving wife Ann Ash Executrix and my brother John Ash and my Friends Charles Pinckney Esquire and Mr. Thomas Jones of Charles town Merchant Executors. The will was proved on the 17th of April 1770, and at the same time qualified Ann Ash Executrix.[6] The Inventory and appraisement of Estate of Richard Cochran Ash by Mrs. Ann Ash was presented on the 6th day of June 1770.[7]

Requested bequests in the will included:

  • plantation on Tooboodoo neck whereon I now live
  • plantation on Tooboodoo neck containing 400 acres I bought of the Executors of Colonel John Bee deceased
  • plantation or tract of land on Tooboo-doo containing 1,230 acres in two tracts both which I purchased from my brother Joseph Ash deceased,
  • plantation called Moss Hill containing 620 acres which was left me by my Uncle James Cochran
  • 250 acres of land which I purchased from William Bower Williamson deceased known by the name of Beaver Point
  • 150 acres of land bought from Thomas Sachaverall deceased
  • plantation parcel or tract of land lying and being on the Island of Daufuskee [Daufuskie] near Georgia containing about 2,000 acres composed of two tracts one of which containing 1,250 acres I purchased of Samuel Peronneau the other about 750 acres which was devised or given to me by my Uncle James Cochran
  • Enslaved persons: Negroes to wit Lean a Wench Daniel her son, Hester a Wench, Ruth a Girl, Minner a Girl, and Hager a Girl; Negroe Girl called Flora (the daughter of a Wench called Lucy) and a Girl called Lindey ( daughter of a Wench called Affey); Negro Girl named Chloe daughter to Wench named Nanny, and one other Negro Girl named Silvie (without any parents.)

Richard Cochran Ash died 21 March 1770 at age 46 years, 4 months, and 14 days and was buried in the Circular Congregation Churchyard in Charles Town.[8][9]
