Biography

Harold was born in Pennsylvania in 1901 to William Ashe and Bertha Smith. In 1910, the family was living in Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.^[1] Children in the home included Elsie, Ernest, Ellen and Harold. Harold's father, William Ashe, was a minister.

Harold registered for the World War I draft in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in 1918. His occupation at the time was painter. His stated physical description was tall and slender with blue eyes and light brown hair. His mother, Bertha Ashe, was listed as his nearest relative.^[2]

In 1920, the family was still living in Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.^[3] Harold was the only child still living with his parents. His father was now painting houses, and Harold was a clerk in a "steam rail road shop."

Harold married Mildred M Gardner on 22 Sep 1927 in California.^[4]

In 1940, he and a Clara were noted on the census as being married. However, there is a marriage record for them from 1942. They may have divorced then gotten back together, or perhaps they were living together and just told the census taker they were married.

He married Clara Virginia Gallaher on 15 Sep 1942 in Los Angeles, California.^[5]

Harold passed away in California on 09 Jan 1969.^[6][7]
