William Henry Roxburgh Ashford was born in 1837, the son of William Ker Ashford and his wife Maria Cordelia Espinasse. In the 1841 UK census the family were recorded living in the house of his maternal grandfather at Twickenham,[1] and in 1851, his grandfather having died, they had moved to Upton cum Chalvey.[2]
His career was as a civil servant in the War Office. In 1880 he married Emma Georgina Walker,[3] and in 1881 he and Emma were living in his mother's house at Petersham. They had three children together, and he passed away in 1912.[4]
