Elizabeth Ashkettle was born 28 March 1843 in Allegany County, Maryland. [1]
Her parents were David Ashkettle and Naomi Deneen.
Elizabeth married Charles Hamilton.

Elizabeth died at the age of 75 on 24 Jul 1918 in Crossroads, West Virginia.[2] [1] The memorial in Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, contains a picture of her gravestone with full dates.
1850 Zihlman, Allegany, Maryland; Elizabeth was living in Allegany County, Maryland, in the household of father David, farmer and mother Naomi, along with siblings James, Lucinda, John, and Harriet. [3]
The 1860 Federal Census taken in Morgan County, Virginia was never dated. Each district was clearly enumerated but the assistant marshal, William H Baker, did not document the dates on any of the forms. In District 1, H Hamilton, 24, a railroad hand, lived with wife E Hamilton, 19 and his father and mother. [4]
Another 1860 Federal Census Hancock District, Washington, Maryland, taken 25 September 1860 places Elizabeth (Ashkettle) in the household of her mother and siblings. [5]
1870 Great Cacapon, Morgan, West Virginia; Charles, works as a laborer on the railroad. Elizabeth was keeping house and they are joined by children; Sara A, John C, Mary E, Alice V, and Richard[6]
1880 ED 22 Great Cacapon, Morgan, West Virginia; Charles works on R.R., Elizabeth cares for there expanded family now with nicknames; Sallie (Sara A), John, Mollie (Mary E), Alice V, Grant (Richard), Charles, Franklin and Emma.[7]
1900 ED 89 Cacapon district Paw Paw town, Morgan, West Virginia; Elizabeth is now widowed. Of note, she has been the mother to 15 children with 9 living in 1900. She runs a boarding house. Children living with her are Grant, ( locomotive fireman), Frank, Emma, Hugh(railroad laborer) and George. [8]

The duplicate 1860 census records for Elizabeth cannot be clearly explained. Conjecture would be Elizabeth moved in with her mother sometime in 1860 and the census taker did not include her married name. Her daughter, Sarah Ann Hamilton was born about 1860 and perhaps she was in her mother's home for the birthAdams-36348 13:24, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
